Introduction to Chalk Paint 101
PLEASE NOTE: - After our move from our Shop in East Molesey, all classes will be in our Customer's home or venue, one to one or small group organised directly with our Customers.
Class time 10:30 - 2:30 - Four hour workshop where you learn the basics of chalk paint, preparation and why you need to check your piece for appropriate prep work, why wax and how to wax properly, demonstration of two toned painting, distressing with sandpaper and dry brushing, then practice on your own small item using the Autentico Vintage paints from our teaching stock of paints** plus clear and dark brown wax. The main aim is to learn the proper way to use chalk paint, avoid brush stroke marks and any unnecessary stains popping through. We will very much focus on your individual paint technique to help you achieve a lovely smooth finish.
Your item should be small, or if you have a large project such as a chest of drawers, bring the drawers with you (the photos here illustrate the style/technique of painting you can achieve after this class but not the size of the items for this class). If you do need a piece of vintage furniture for the class, please contact us in advance (at least one week please) as we have a storage unit full of vintage pieces waiting to be revamped, upcycled and given a new lease of life with Chalk Paint and you can purchase something ideal for the class. Contact us in advance for more information if you need a piece to paint. Do think carefully about the piece you bring. Note that it is a myth that chalk paint means no prep - Chalk Paint cannot cure wood worm, flaking old paint, loose joints etc. If you have a question about your piece, please do contact us in advance.
please do scroll through the dates below. As some classes are added later, they may not appear in date order.
**We always have a large selection of paints in our teaching stock of paint. However, we cannot hold all 160 Autentico colours in our teaching stock of paint. If you require a specific colour for your piece, please order from the store with a minimum of 7days in advance so that your paint will be in the shop for you to use during class and to take away with you.
You can also book private session for one to one tuition or group private sessions. Contact us for more information.
